A trade secret is any formula, pattern, device or a compilation of information which is not generally known or disseminated, which is used in one's business and provides a business advantage over competitors who do not know or use it. Trade secrets require careful handling for maintaining the secrecy. In order to protect trade secrets it is necessary to have proper inter-company procedures in place including employee agreements, visitor access limitations and internal need to know protections. Any external disclosures require confidentiality agreements so that the trade secrets are maintained.
